Guest LECTURER/ Former Course Co-ordinator

Jimmy is a filmmaker and film academic.

In the spring of 2015 his debut feature film was released nationally in UK cinemas. High Tide, starring Melanie Walters (Submarine, Gavin and Stacey) and Sam Davies (Dr Who), was shot on location in Swansea and Gower. It tells the story of a single day during which a mother must mend the broken relationship with her son; it is a moving, powerful and tender portrait of a vital twenty-four hours in two people’s lives.

Most recently, Jimmy has been awarded funding from Ffilm Cymru Wales to shoot a short Sci-fi film called Zero Sum. He has previously made a number of short films and documentaries, including Ex Libris, which starred internationally renowned actor Bob Pugh (Game of Thrones, Master and Commander).

Previous to his role as Course Co-ordinator for Film and Media Arts Production at Weston College, Jimmy was a Lecturer in Film Studies at Swansea University. He has delivered guest lectures at a number of Uk and European HE institutions, including: Queen Mary University, London; University of Cork; Kins College, London; Leeds University; and the University of Birmingham.

His research interests include American Independent Cinema, Film Aesthetics, Melodrama, European Art-House Cinema, and Feminist Film Theory. He has a number of book and journal publications, including most recently a chapter in the Wiley-Blackwell published A Companion to Luis Bunuel.
