EXPERIMENTAL MEDIA ARTS MODULE


This module aims to introduce a broad range of experimental media arts practices through a series of lectures, exhibitions, visiting artists, workshops and own self initiated practice.

You are encouraged to look at film, video and media arts works within different forms and mediums, this may include new emerging practices. 

Area's, forms, concepts and artist/ film makers we shall explore include:

VJ/ SCRATCH VIDEO/ CUT UPs
"I never tried to do anything to make my films friendly." From his start in Britain's video art scene in the 1990s to his first feature film in 2008 to the Oscar-nominated 12 Years a Slave, Steve McQueen's self-imposed criteria has always been to "tell some kind of truth."
Vodcast about the British film artist in which he describes his influences and talks about his work. Man With Mirror (1976/2006), Paper Landscapes (1975/2006), Mobius Loops (2006-07), Railings (1977) Guy Sherwin was born 1948 and studied painting at Chelsea School of Art in the 1960s.

Lis Rhodes

This film contains flashing images. Lis Rhodes is a major figure in the history of artists' filmmaking in Britain and was a leading member of the influential London Filmmakers' Co-op. Lis Rhodes' installation, Light Music, recreated for The Tanks at Tate Modern, is an innovative work, experimenting with celluloid and sound to push the formal, spatial and performative boundaries of cinema.
