Last time I tried out S-log I found it incredibly difficult to use, however upon my second go at trying to grade it, I've found myself getting much more of a hang of the proper way to go about the grade and definitely to spend as much time as I can preparing the camera like you would a film camera, as opposed to thinking of LOG like Raw.
The Look up tables that I added also look very sexy and if used appropriately could save some of my shots, although its also good to note that even with standard grading the footage looks just as good.
I've also found that clicking on the Balance Colour button of FCPX creates a much more usable shot to start off with than if I try to balance the colour myself.
