Bluescreen at Cube Cinema

The films including my documentary film 'American Independent Cinema' were screened at the Bluescreen event at the Cube Cinema, Bristol on 21st May 2014. I enjoyed seeing short films (fiction, documentary, experimental and music video) especially Andy Oxley's 'Born to be Mild' about the Dull Men's Club.

Here is the link to a shortened version of 'Born to be Mild', some parts of the film, I have seen at the Bluescreen, are cut out which I found very disappointing. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Game of Thrones Death Montage

There is a video that does have an experimental film aspect due to the editing and the use of colour. Each of the clips ended as the colour changes to black and white.

There's not much to do beyond the wall, so i decided to kill some time with making a montage of most of the notable death's we've seen so far in Game of Thrones, enjoy. Music: System of a Down - Soldier Side If you have any opinions or questions about the video, leave them in the comments below.

Top 10 Film Noirs and Top 10 Neo-Noir Films

WatchMojo.com, the video content production organisation, made these videos, which would be good as a film list for the future First Year's students who are interested in FdA Film and Media Production Arts at Weston College.

A good detective never sleeps. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com counts down our picks for the top 10 film noirs. For this list, since experts fail to agree on a standard definition for the genre, we're limiting our choices to gritty, cynical thrillers and crime dramas from the early-'40s to late-'50s that are shot in black-and-white.

Experimental Film Workshop at the Cube Cinema

I came over to the Cube Cinema in Bristol where I and the group made an experimental 16mm film. I did scratching and drawing, and also painted some inks on the film strip. I looked at Kari doing the traditional editing by cutting and stick the filmstrips together with cellotape. This kind of editing was used before the digital technology took over. We looked at the two early colour stencil films from the BFI collection 'Fairy Tales'.

John Smith: An experimental film-maker

John Smith has done many experimental films since the 1970s. These films are strongly influenced by the Structural Materialist ideas. 'Drawing upon the raw material of everyday life, Smith's meticulously crafted films rework and transform reality, playfully exploring and exposing the language of cinema' (http://www.uel.ac.uk/research/profiles/adi/johnsmith/)

I took the the idea for my experimental film, inspired from one of his films, The Girl Chewing Gum (1976). In his film, it focuses on the street in Darlston, London along with the director's voiceover that gains a comic response from the audience. The voiceover is done with the camera in a different place and time. This film subvert the boundaries between documentary and fiction.

For my film, I have filmed various locations in Bristol and Plymouth durimg the Easter holiday. I chose several locations that are interesting and wrote the script for the voiceover. I would then film my voiceover similar to what John Smith did. I also would edit the footage of the locations and my voiceover together. Like the ending of The Girl Chewing Gum, I would film a shot of the mirror reflection of myself holding my Flip camrecoder. I would look at the mirror and say 'CUT' then blackout.
