Viktorija Chvirago

About Me

I am Viktorija Chvirago, a student at UCW Studying BA (Hons) Film & Media Arts Production. I began my creative journey through Art and Design (Photography) at Level 1 and Level 2, but photography had been a hobby before that. Wanting a change in my career, I took a deep dive into visual arts —starting with photography and naturally moving into filmmaking.

My mind is always in the creative world, exploring new ways to tell stories and express ideas. I believe your job should be something you love doing, not just a way to make money. For me, creativity is not just a passion — it’s a way of life.

1st YEAR

Everyday Activity - Film Production Skills

What began as a simple project to film an everyday activity gradually transformed into a heartfelt advert for UCW and the Film and Media course. Blending real moments with personal reflection, the video captures my creative journey and invites others to follow their own path into the world of film.

Documentary Production

This documentary-style newspaper is a visual and narrative exploration of real-life issues, combining photography and storytelling to highlight personal experiences and social challenges. Created as part of my creative practice, it captures moments that are often overlooked, inviting the reader to pause, reflect, and engage.

GROUP FILM PROJECT: BARROW CURSE - Film Production Skills

I worked as Director of Photography (DOP) on The Barrow Curse, a short horror film about three friends who go wild camping near an ancient “cairn”—and unknowingly awaken a sinister presence. As DOP, I was responsible for the film’s visual style, capturing the eerie atmosphere of the field, the suspenseful tone of the curse, and the transformation of one friend into part of the barrow itself. I worked closely with the director to plan shots that enhanced the story’s mystery and tension.

EXPERIMENTAL MEDIA ARTS PROJECT

For my experimental media project, I explored cyanotype photography. I printed my own photographic negatives onto acetate sheets. These elements were combined in layered, experimental compositions to produce a series of unique cyanotype prints. Through this process, I was able to blend natural forms with my own photography, experimenting with light, texture, and composition to create visually rich and tactile pieces.

1st YEAR

Everyday Activity - MEDICATION & ME

Our first assignment in Year one was a module called “Everyday Activity”. For this I decided to film a short piece about getting medication ready as this is a part of my daily life.

EXPERIMENTAL MEDIA - “SEA LIKE A MIRROR” - INFINITY MIRROR BOX

We had an assignment called Experimental Media and the theme was “Sea like a Mirror”

For this I decided I wanted to make from scratch, an infinity box with the theme the Sea. I hand made a box at home out of reclaimed wood, brought the mirrors and then sourced the materials to make it look like a scene from under the Sea.

This was displayed at the UCW’s Annual Experimental Media Showcase held at The Cube Microplex in Bristol.

DOCUMENTARY - MAD ABOUT RC

Our second assignment was to make a Documentary. I made a documentary called MAD about RC which was a short film about my obsession with RC Cars’. The MAD stands for my initials, Mark Anthony Davey.

RESIDENTIAL FILM PROJECT - barrow curse

Our Year One residential was originally to go to Germany, we ended up staying local and filmed in Uphill, Weston super Mare.

We made a short thriller about three backpackers who explore a local myth about a cairn where a mystical creature drags one of the backpackers back into the Earth.

My role was 1st AD,, Co- Director, Producer and Editor.

Happyaholics is a Year Three student’s Final Film created and Directed by Star Davey, (also my wife!) It is a dark comedy about a self help group for very happy people who need to explore the doom and gloom of life.

This film was selected to be screened at the Eat Our Shorts Film Festival at the BFI (British Film Institute) in London in October 2024. It also had an honourable mention at Folkestone Film Festival in February 2025.

THIS WOMAN’S WORK - DRONE OPERATOR

This Woman’s Work was a short film for Star Davey’s Year 3 Exploratory Project. She wanted to explore camera angles and for this I used my DJI Drone to shoot aerial scenes.

It’s about a woman who goes’s to the woods to hide evidence but finds more than she bargained for.

RADIUM MADNESS - SOUND RECORDIST

I was a sound recordist on a Year three student’s Final film called Radium Madness by Alfie Walsh.

Radium Madness is a psychological thriller about a young scientist developing madness from Radiation.

ALIEN ON THE RUN - ACTOR

Alien on the run is a slapstick comedy, for a Year Three student Jake Britton’s Final film.

I had chosen to base mine around two people walking their dogs on the beach, turned into a promotional film based on those from the 1930’s to the 1970’s.

Group short film project - the barrow curse

The Barrow Curse is a short horror film I wrote and directed as part of our first year group short film project. The film as written focuses on atmosphere and psychological tension, with an emphasis on visual storytelling. It deals with isolation, superstition, and the quiet build-up of dread. However, the film as edited ended up being really funny. Working on this project helped me develop my skills in scriptwriting, directing actors, and managing the moving pieces of a film shoot.

EXPERIMENTAL MEDIA ARTS PROJECT

Tesserae is a physical installation made up of repeated, individual parts of a landscape image, arranged into a larger form. It takes inspiration from mosaic art and looks at how small pieces can come together to create something more meaningful. The idea developed through my own research alongside workshops in our Experimental Media module, where we explored themes relating to structure, repetition, and using physical space as part of the work. Tesserae is about pattern, connection, and how the way things are placed can change how we see them.

1st YEAR

Everyday Activity - Film Production Skills

first brief of the year. Every Day Activity.

we had to make a short film with the maximum running time of 5 minutes.

My film was about a young girl and her xl Bully dog called Gunner. The xl bully ban had recently come into effect and I wanted to show how wearing a muzzle effected Gunner.

once Gunner leaves the house you can see the effects it has on him some times refusing to walk and other times trying to pull a head to get his walk over with because the dog dose not feel secure or able to defend himself. As the walk continues Gunner starts to relax as he realises there is no danger to him from other dogs or people.

Documentary Production

Second brief: Documentary film.

From The Mud

we had to make a documentary. mine was a fly on the wall style documentary which followed a small group of actors called From The Mud as they rehearsed and performed live a Christmas show at the Front Room theatre in Weston-super-mare.

The documentary was to give a little history about the front room theatre and to show how From The Mud transformed into a live show, interviews were held with the Co Director and cast members.

Unfortunately I had to remove most of the rehearsals as the troop didn’t want me giving away to many of their trade secrets.

RESIDENTIAL FILM PROJECT / Short Film: Barrow Curse - Film Production Skills

We were due to shoot a short film in Germany but was cancelled due to the lack of numbers. So we made our short film in Uphill UK.

Barrow Curse is a short film about a group of young people going on a camping trip, they are warned about the dangers of camping at uphill but ignore the barman’s ominous warnings.

The film was shot at the dolphin pub and uphill nature reserve.

My job on this shoot was Assistant camera man where I had to make sure the Director of photography had all the right equipment and to set the camera up ready for shooting I did manage to take the final shot of the short film as the Dop was struggling to get the camera exposure light enough to be able to see anything due to the failing light and time of day.

I was also responsible for Props and recce reports of both shooting sites.

EXPERIMENTAL MEDIA ARTS PROJECT

Full film: Water, Nature, Sun Moon and Stars.

An epic journey that takes you from under the water to the sun stars and moon.

Experimental media show case which was shown at the cube cinema in Bristol. This was also shown at Sea like a mirror Programme in Weston-super- mare, commissioned to mark the 200th anniversary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Industry Practice - Client briefs…

Myself and David filmed this as part of a 3 camera setup.

Working along side promoter Sam Cohen.
